V-A-C-A-TION....in the summertime!

We left town around 1:30PM on Friday. I picked up rootbeer1 at the Big Propeller on Mission and Spear, and then over the Bay Bridge and onward to I-5. I'm usually a leadfoot on freeways, especially I-5, the flattest, straightest, hypnosis-inducing highway ever, but Steve says I was crawling. Nah, I just set the cruise control at 70 and let 'er go, so I could relax and listen to music and get into that vacation groove.

We got to Glendale exactly 6 hours later and fell into the waiting arms of profkampf. First time we saw his place in California--it's full of art! We went to Phillipe's for dinner. It's the home of the original French Dip sandwich--as seen on Food TV. The place has a lot of character, and the food was good, and cheap. For dessert, we just had to go to the House of Pies, where Kirstie Alley used to indulge her buy-a-whole-pie-and-eat-it-in-the-parking-lot habit. Lots of pie there. We even saw what we dubbed the Kirstie Alley Table, which faced a wall, had only one chair, and for some reason hundreds of coffee creamers piled up on it. Then Ray drove us all over LA, showing us sites and venues we had never seen. Back to his house where we watched a couple of episodes of Meerkat Manor on Animal Planet. This show is now my new favorite.

Saturday morning we drove to Jinky's for the Simon (bearlesque) farewell brunchie with lots of local bears, including kingfuraday (he's very tall!), e_ticket, djmrswhite, aairplane, garycotti, simonbear, and some other non-LJ very nice guys....always great to meet new people. Then we headed down the 405 to Long Beach and our friend Sam, whom we've known forever and haven't seen in a while. He took us to Ambrosia, a spectacular Greek restaurant with the best Greek food we've ever had. Next morning we had brunch at a local Mexican buffet, said goodbye and headed out the 10 to Palm Springs, our home away from home.

So we've been swimming in the pool, soaking in the hot tub, shopping and eating out. As soon as we got in, we went to a few open houses because A) we're nosy lookie-loos, and B) we actually are interested in maybe buying a vacation/retirement place here. Met up with our friends Dave and Matt for dinner Sunday night, then back to their place to watch The Amazing Race. Monday we met another online friend, Michael, had dinner and hung out. Yesterday (Tuesday), did some shopping, got in some serious sun/pool time, and went to dinner with littlepaulieprissypants redbackfur, then hung out. Lots of eating, shopping and hanging out---that's what vacation is all about, isn't it?

Currently hanging out and thinking about eating and shopping. This afternoon, animbear, redbeardedblond and bigsabu arrive in their hippie VW van for a few days, then we all go to Disneyland. We haven't seen the boys in over a year, and are quite pining for them. It's their first time in PS, so we'll be squiring them around, showing them all the best places to shop and eat and hang out.

We'll keep you posted!

OMG, I had forgotten about Phillippe's. John and I have eaten there. You know, just this Monday I had a French dip sandwich at a local restaurant in Chelsea, and my dinner companion (a New York native) had never heard of such a thing. Now when the subject comes up again I'll remember to tell him about Phillippe's.

Enjoy PS, dammit! And for GAWD's sake, don't trip at Dinnylan!
