One year ago today, Steve (rootbeer1) and I were married at City Hall in San Francisco. We'd been together 9 1/2 years, so it was more of a political statement than a cementing of our union. Nonetheless, standing together, saying our vows, exchanging rings (we had been wearing rings for years, so at the appropriate moment in the ceremony we literally exchaged them---I put mine on Steve and vice versa)--it was phenomenal, and a true marriage in every sense. The California Supreme Court's ruling six months later annulling the same-sex marriages performed in San Francisco in no way annulled ours in our hearts. We still have our marriage license framed on our bedroom wall, and there it will stay, until it is once again declared legal.
To celebrate, we've been just cuddling together, eating pate, leftover chicken and pasta, and chocolate cake. And Steve surprised me with my very own iPod, preloaded with 168 romantic songs that some of you little rascals suggested. I was, and am, very moved.
I love my husband so much!
PS--last night we attended the Foggy City Dancers Valentine's Day dance, and had a blast. We're virtually certified Mainstream dancers (2 more classes to go), and it was just a great time all around, with many, many LJ dancers in attendance, and a few potential future class members. I was a bit skeptical when we started the class last August, but you know, it really is addictive. Great exercise too!!
