One year ago today, Steve (rootbeer1) and I were married at City Hall in San Francisco. We'd been together 9 1/2 years, so it was more of a political statement than a cementing of our union. Nonetheless, standing together, saying our vows, exchanging rings (we had been wearing rings for years, so at the appropriate moment in the ceremony we literally exchaged them---I put mine on Steve and vice versa)--it was phenomenal, and a true marriage in every sense. The California Supreme Court's ruling six months later annulling the same-sex marriages performed in San Francisco in no way annulled ours in our hearts. We still have our marriage license framed on our bedroom wall, and there it will stay, until it is once again declared legal.

To celebrate, we've been just cuddling together, eating pate, leftover chicken and pasta, and chocolate cake. And Steve surprised me with my very own iPod, preloaded with 168 romantic songs that some of you little rascals suggested. I was, and am, very moved.

I love my husband so much!

PS--last night we attended the Foggy City Dancers Valentine's Day dance, and had a blast. We're virtually certified Mainstream dancers (2 more classes to go), and it was just a great time all around, with many, many LJ dancers in attendance, and a few potential future class members. I was a bit skeptical when we started the class last August, but you know, it really is addictive. Great exercise too!!

Happy Anniversary and many more to come. Here's to the day we all look back and say with wonder; "Remember when same-sex marriages and partnerships weren't recognized?!"

A beautiful sentiment - and hopefully one that will come true soon!

Happy Wedding Anniversary!

Once again Happy Anniversary to both of you. I don't know how a court can annul marriages that were legal at the time. As far as I am concerned, you are legally married and will remain so, ad infinitum. Damn the narrow-minded iceholes who would want to take that away from you. You deserve to have a happy life. Gigantic bear hugs to both of you.

Happy Anniversary!!!

Both myself and my husbear bearzilla got legally married in Massachusetts. Eight years prior, we had a Commitment ceremony in Provincetown MA which we consider our original wedding. May you two have a long happy married life together. HUGS

The sentiment previously voiced " remember when same-sex marriages were not legal?" will someday join "remember when inter-racial marriage was illegal?" and "remember when women couldn't vote?" and all the other indignities that people endure and overcome.

And so I salute you both on your anniversary. For the love you have for each other, the example you set. And the fact that your union appears to have become file footage throughout the world;)

Happy Anniversary!!!!!

And thanks so much for showing how much you appreciate having such a rare gift! It's so easy to take something, someone, or a circumstance for granted the longer it's available to you. It's a major testament to maintain a healthy, committed, and still romantic relationship not only for such a long time, but in a classic single city like San Francisco!
