Bears in the woods

Thursday after work, rootbeer1 and I headed up to Guerneville on the Russian River for a long weekend getaway. We never did get to celebrate our 10th anniversary properly, so we used the nice check my sister Judy and her husband gave us back in July (a belated wedding gift) and booked a weekend at The Highlands Resort. It's rustic, comfortable, and in the middle of a redwood grove. It also has a nice hot tub pavilion where you can soak under the stars, which we did a lot.

We also ate out, shopped, went to Sister Bingo on Saturday night (we won a cheesy bird feeder and two baseball caps!) and watched DVDs--Brother Bear and Station Agent in our room (the only one with a private DVD player) and Down With Love for the umpteenth time in the common room Friday night. We met some nice guys, basked by the freezing cold pool (which Steve actually jumped in), and generally chilled out and relaxed. One of the things we miss most about the East is the change of seasons, and especially the autumn colors. It's not quite the same, but north of The City the leaves actually do change, and we saw plenty of reds and golds and oranges and that peachy-pink that's so lovely. We feel like we've now experienced Fall.

We planned on doing some errands on the way home today, including a Costco run. We stopped at the big one in Novato--always fun to check out the other Costcos. We're now doing laundry, just finished a nice healthy fiber-filled dinner to make up for our restaurant excesses, and will catch up on some 200 LJ friends posts apiece.
