Weekend Update

Busy week last week--work kept me hopping. Square dance class on Tuesday was a nice break--it's getting more and more fun as we learn new things and rehearse the old. Some of the basic moves are now second nature--you hear the call and perform the step like Pavlov's dog. Our teacher is also gradually increasing the speed of the tips, so we're in almost constant motion. A good workout, and lots of fun.

Saturday we went to Trader Joe's (zero-carb chocolate and other dietary essentials, like Chock Full Of Nuts coffee), Cala (carnitas) and Safeway (chicken, cheese, other cooking supplies). At 2:00PM Steve's brother David and his wife Andrea came over. They just returned from a 3 1/2 moth cross country driving trip, visiting friends and relatives. David is writing the family biography, and interviewd as many aunts, uncles and cousins as possible. They wanted to share some stories with us, and hear about our month-long trip back East last July. We gabbed for 7 hours, with a short break for dinner (salad, white chili, carnitas).

This morning we met up with herrdreamersf, lb925, ricksf, and pseudocub1 for breakfast at the infamous Tyger's in Glen Park. Great conversation and food (and excellent coffee). Steve and I then browsed for a while in the cool bookstore a few doors up, then off the Tower to use up the gift card our friend Gregg gave me for my birthday in August.

Well, the Tower at Stonestown Galleria is in its own building, on the second floor, over a Good Guys store. I always love to check out the TVs in Good Guys, so I ran in while Steve took the escalator up to Tower. Long story short, we bought a 43" Samsung HDTV. It's a DLP rear-projection model that will just fit in out teak entertainment center in the living room. Hey, it was $1000 off, and we have a *ahem* sizable DVD collection, so I figured it was a good investment. We spent the afternoon rewiring all the components to pipe the video through our digital A/V receiver, ready for the new set to be installed tomorrow. We also are moving the old giant (32") CRT TV up to the bedroom, which means rearranging a lot of stuff. David is coming over in a few minutes to help move the heavy furniture and the massive TV upstairs, as my back won't tolerate it.

So we look forward to many long winter evenings cocooning in front of the warm glow of high definition video. Woohoo!!!

Diamond and Chenery, breakfast and lunch only, great diner-type food in a homey atmosphere. Usually a wait on weekends, but the line is very social.

I didn't see it coming either. But I had been reviewing the exact set just the last Friday, so I took it as a sign that we should get it.
